Electrical Training

ONLINE TRAINING IS NOW BEING OFFERED

The Code of Federal Regulations, Title 30 requires that those that do electrical work on Coal Mine Property must be qualified with the Mine Safety and Health Administration. 

This can be accomplished by contacting the MSHA District 3 office 304-693-1000 ext. 10998 and talk to a MSHA representative as to the minimum experience requirements to become qualified. ​

INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE INTERESTED IN BECOMING QUALIFIED TO PERFORM ELECTRICAL WORK AT COAL MINE SITES (SURFACE AND/OR UNDERGROUND) MUST FIRST CONTACT MSHA.

MSHA WILL REVIEW YOUR ELECTRICAL BACKGROUND AND DETERMINE IF YOU QUALIFY TO TAKE THE TEST.

THE BASIC REQUIREMENT IS TO HAVE ONE YEAR (2000 HRS) OF HANDS-ON ELECTRICAL EXPERIENCE IN THE MINING INDUSTRY (MINING, MINE EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURING OR SIMILAR TYPE INDUSTRY). 

TO REVIEW THE TOPICS THAT YOU WILL BE TESTED ON, GO TO THE CFR, TITLE 30 PART 75.153 (UG TEST TOPICS) AND 77.103 (SURFACE TEST TOPICS).

YOU MUST ACHIEVE 80% ON ALL TESTS.

Qualification testing is done at the MSHA District office by MSHA personnel.  Tri-State Safety offers training to prepare applicants to take and pass the initial electrical testing.  The electrical qualification once received must be maintained by attending an approved 8 hour electrical retraining program by the end of each year.  We offer that training at various locations in the tri-state area.  We can also come to your location for your training needs.
